August 5 at 4 p.m., Union Square, San Francisco. Big Finance has swindled hundreds of billions of dollars from the people of the United States by begging for an unconscionable bail-out of the nation’s largest financial institutions via the so-called Troubled Asset Relief Program, or TARP.  Meanwhile, the biggest players on Wall Street have foreclosed the homes of millions of families, attacked union representation for workers, and funded the criminalization and incarceration of poor people at record rates.
Locally, 72 percent of the $412,000 that funded the campaign for San Francisco’s sit/lie law that bans sitting and lying down by homeless people came from the finance sector. Charles Schwab himself put $30,000 into the campaign, while his co-CEOs, donated another $25,000. Top-level staff at Well$ Fargo donated thousands of dollars more. Meanwhile, Well$ Fargo and others are among the biggest investors in private prisons in the United States.
ENOUGH! Join social justice groups from across the West Coast in a Great American TARP Tour of the dirty deeds of Big Finance on August 5, 2011, at 4 p.m. in Union Square, San Francisco.
